How would I start with swing mechanics?

I'd like to start small. Maybe figure out how to do something similar to this:

    http://members.optushome.com.au/chrisrhodes/swing.html

Where the left and right keys influence the horizontal movement, there is momentum upon release of the rope, and the new rope pulls you in the direction of its attached point.

Something similar to spiderman or the ninja game that's been around for a while.

    Suggestions?

my ninja game simply used an elastic rope, i was never happy with it because it never looked real. I tried doing what your doing and never found a good solution, search for pendulums, there's heaps of stuff on them.

You know, most times when there's a question about such general topics, there's usually a past thread about it

in this case, i already helped someone with the exact same question:

Its not really swing mechanics, this is real clunky! Oh well, I'll blame it on the fact I made it 4 years ago =D

holy crap, thanks! i'm going to poke around this code and see what makes it tick.

clunky is fine, as long as i have something to look at as an example.

    thanks again!
