[Prototype] Feeding Frenzy
Ok, this is just a quick gameplay prototype of Feeding Frenzy. It's all about catching flies with your frog. Scale your window down if framerate is bad.
Feeding Frenzy
Left/Right = rotate frog on lillipad
Spacebar = shoot tongue out and try to catch flies.
Currently, you can catch both flies and hornets, but in the final version you'll obviously lose a life for sucking in a hornet.
Got lots of ideas for improving this one :
Multiplayer
Jumping to different lillipads
Frog grows as you eat flies
Crocodile that keeps you moving.

Nice beginning.
The one suggestion I have is to make it so the player cannot hold down on space and keep the tongue action going. I was able to catch every single fly and hornet on screen by just holding down on the spacebar.

In the final game, hornets will be deadly. So, the player will not benefit from doing this. Avoiding sucking in hornets will be their reason to not use that behavior.

Actually, I was able to avoid the hornet and suck in the flies using the hold technique.

So, you might be able to clear lvl 1 with that technique. But as the amount of hornets increases, that would become more difficult.
I could add a delay before you can use the tongue again, but I'm wondering if that would feel too restrictive. I'll try that out and see.
But I really don't think it's gonna be a big issue. Making the hornets fly around faster and cluster closer to the lillipad might also solve the issue even on lvl 1.

Cool. I wish the frog rotated a bit faster, with accelleration too.

hmm.. guess my post didnt show up ><
anyways, i think this game could really benefit from mouse controls. Make the frog spin to catch up with the mouse. the frog does spin a little to slow though

I'll play around with the rotation speed, and add acceleration to the mix. Good feedback.

Yeah, I was thinking about that last night. I'm gonna add that as a control option so I can compare them. I'll probably do that when I add the turning animation for the frog. Right now, he just rotates with no animation.
Also, this prototype just has the basic controls. I want him to be able to jump to other lillipads that are floating around.

Yeah, I intend to have more levels, music, and more depth to gamepyay. This was just a prototype for the controls, you can't even die yet!!!
