Yeah, I suppose, but you're assuming two things: the thief will use it online and that they're not smart enough to wipe it and start fresh to clear anything incriminating (on the surface, at least.)

But since it'd be free, that wouldn't matter. It's just an added assurance.

While it's always wise to consider the fact that there might be smart thieves, I think it is fairly appropriate to say that most thieves are rather stupid individuals.

What's going to stop people from exploiting this? I mean... if it broadcasts out all of the time, then all it'll take is one smart person to notice what port/traffic/requests this would respond to, and then capture the method to make it always report in on people... and seemingly without the user knowing more than likely.
