Designing a room builder. Any Ideas?
Hey guys
I need to make a room designer that work very much like this site: (Sorry about the site but its the best example i could find)
http://myscene.everythinggirl.com
To get to the page im talking about click on My Games at the top....then room designer on the left hand side (Sorry about that cant do a direct like)
Does anyone know if there are any tutorials on how to make this type of flash program.
My idea also would be to be able to drag thumbnail versions from a tool bar and place it on the large version and change things like colours and work surfaces.
I will need to design this for each room in a house so its gonna be quite big
Any help would be good (I'm a flash newbie and know very little actionscipt)
Thanks guys
P.S. sorry mods if ive posted in the wrong forum

Didnt wana go to that site (I hate all of those babie things, they are disgusting)...
But if its bird eye view a tile based map could be good idea, i think it would also be achived with an isometric view for a 3d affect..
But i think what you want is preaty simple. Duno if your able to do that your self, i dont know any tutes directly to what you need.

Having taken a look at what it is you want to accomplish, it's more of a tedious process than a complex system.
Off the top of my head I would create a movie clip for each layer that can be modified. ie: one layer for the floor one layer for the bed one layer for the lamps...
You would organize these in your timeline accordingly. the floor layer would be the bottom most, followed by the rugs, bed...
Within each MC, you would have several different keyframes each with a different option.
example:
The floor MC would have 3 frames each with a different floor model. Depending on what choice the user selects, you would gotoAndStop('wood');...
The system itself is quite straightforward as I said. It just involves a lot of setting up. I didn't get a chance to play with any saving preferences which may be the only cause for concern, but then again you may not need to save a person's selection.

I am actually working on the exact same project. I am building a game which you can design the interior AND exterior of the house. Perhaps there is a way we could team up on this project? I can do all the coding, the graphics are what get me, I am not artistic enough. If you could do graphics, and I could code.... let me know if you would be interested. I already have a decent headstart on the concept.
If you want to team up on this, PM me an email address and I will send you what I have now.
