ezWeather (desktop widget)

I am posting my ezWeather desktop widget I wrote.

this is an ON-LINE version.. (as not to waste bandwidth on people dl'ing the .exe just for feedback)

ezWeather, will be compiled to an .exe for distribution (fun), it is XML based and uses the Yahoo! Weather services rss/xlm feed.

USA zip codes only (sorry)

I think it checks for weather updates every 30 minutes or so..


(RIGHT CLICK & DRAG will let you move/position the widget when in .exe)
(ESC key kills/closes app... in .exe)

hi.. there is also an advanced version coming soon (havent compiled/tested it yet)

that hen clickec will expand the BG to reveal some other data:

time/date
hi/lo
sun-up/sun-set times
and 2 days forecast I believe.

Actually "I" did post a tut (code) for this..

search for a thread called trouble with phpWeather or just weather should get you the thread.

the original poster had trouble with his version from somewhere. (the PHP).. I looked at it.. and found otu you do NOT need PHP to get the data from YAHOO... (if kept local, .exe or tested through flash).. for the WEB you can have PHP handle all the dat afor you.. just parse it into FLASH..however you will need to bounce it off a quick php proxy script (1 line of code) first to get the data (if on-line)

you could also use the weather channel's rss feeds to get multiple days and conditions if you want your widget to expand even more.

true enough...but I read some stuff about weather channel feed.. either changing..or something.. something that made me go with the Yahoo service..

does the weather Channel has an OPEN crossdomain.xml?? or a closed one like YAHOO?

You have to register with them and they'll send you a packet with a specific ID you use to generate the rss feed.
