Upgrading Flash via a "roundabout" route.
( Couldn't really find a more approriate forum for this one, move at will )
I've been known to make a few banners, I have a legal version Flash 5 ( win ), I bought it off Ebay, it consists of a printed CD and a serial number printed in a small font on a piece of paper.
Not long ago I came across this site that offers an upgrade to Flash 8 which then entitles the purchaser to get in touch with Adobe to get a free upgrade to Flash CS3 ( before 25 June 2007 ) , all for the price of 400 euro ( 450 $US or so ).
This price I could almost justify. I can quite happily make my banners in Flash 5, but it would be nice nice to enter the 21st century at some stage.
This would probably be the last chance to upgrade from Flash 5 as CS3, for example, is only available as an upgrade from MX and onwards, I believe.
I am assuming that the upgrade to Flash 8 would work, I have no reason to believe otherwise, and I assume the retailer is being honest about the free upgrade to Flash CS3, but then comes my predicament....
.... I want to crossover to Mac, and run Flash CS3 on a MacBook.
When should I attempt the crossover? I can't see an upgrade from Win Flash 5 to Mac Flash 8 going very smoothly.
What do you people think Adobe would say if I rang them and said I just bought a copy of Win Flash 8 and would like to apply for my free upgrade to Flash CS3, and, er, can you make that a Mac version please?
Thanks in advance.

There is no free upgrade from Flash 8 to CS3. It's cheaper, but it's not free by any means. Also, you can't upgrade cross-platform. So you can't have Flash 8 on a PC, and buy an upgrade for CS3 on a Mac. Trust me, I've had it out with Adobe! Read: http://board.flashkit.com/board/showthread.php?t=728934
Also, I don't even know what you did with buying the Flash 5 from EBay was legal. So you might just be better off buying the full copy to be safe.

Did I miss a step somewhere? surely it is legal to resell or purchase software secondhand. I have registered my Flash 5 version with Adobe, although I received no confirmation of the registration.

It would probably be best if you just took it up with Adobe and see what they say.

Well I apologize if I jumped the gun with you having an illegal version. Just the printed cd and the serial number printed on a little piece of paper flags illegal to me.
I also referred to my story as just a sort of basis for cross-platform issue. I know you don't need it on two computers at the same time, but they are hard to deal with when it comes to that stuff. I've been told a few times by customer support stuff that they can do, then turn around and don't. So if you call, make sure you get the name of the customer service rep that tells you that you can do something. Document it fully.
And I also apologize about not knowing about the free upgrade. I just never heard of that before.
Good Luck!

No need for apologies MyFriend, any discussion is valued.
From Adobe....
The installation process for an upgrade requires that you enter the serial number from a qualifying product, on the same platform and for the same language version, as the upgrade product being installed.
Qualifying products go back 3 previous versions.
So I guess an upgrade from Flash 5 to Flash 8 won't be a problem, and in principle I should get my CS3 upgrade as well.
Just means I'm stuck with Windows.
