anyone else hear that?
Great link to the tv post...loved reading that, and when it was just us and our daughter, we only let her watch about 15-30 minutes of cartoons at night before bed as a treat...BUT... now that we have a 5-month old who seems to be in a constant state of hunger, TV is a life saver when one of us is at home alone, feeding the baby and she starts demanding attention, trying to get out of the house, chase the dog, etc...once he's done eating, the TV goes off and the play begins again, but, as much as I hate to say it, TV is the great distractor...
..and, there's no way we would travel anywhere over an hour without the DVD player in the car...it's either that or whining & screaming...
I know, it's horrible, but, until he's old enough to be able to feed himself, I think the TV stays...and for long trips in the car...hmmm...not sure what the solution is there...

a proven technology for what? 100 mile range if you baby the batteries.. wow what technology!!! Great damn thing we dug up all those heavy toxic metals so you could not use a bus to zoom around the city in your battery powered car!

Yeah, but, if you drive from the country (i.e. no public transportation), 30 miles to work and then back home every day, electric cars seem to make LOTS of sense...
Once the price comes down to a reasonable level or until we can get a used one somewhere...
Of course, we'll keep the huge, gas-guzzling, DVD equipped family van for those long trips...

Don't get me wrong.. I would love commuting in a tesla.. but what about the toxic effects of the batteries manufacturing and then the disposal when they are complete... not to mention with a biodiesel jetta, passat, or even ram 3500 I could be very well doing less damage to the environment and certainly less damage to my bank account.

Believe me, not having kids myself I'm never about to suggest to anyone else how they should or shouldn't bring their's up. I'll have to wait until the appropriate time before I can give my own personal account on what is and isn't possible with regards to TV. I'm certainly hoping I can follow this guy's example, but until I've walked in his (or your) shoes, I can't say how it will go.

What about the 16 or so parts whose production no doubt contributes that could be eliminated. Wouldn't a biodiesel car still need to keep them lubed? Or is there bio-motor oil too?
I agree on the dirty electric battery, those could add up to a lot of damage.

Well, young technology, at least when its put to the mass market, always starts out quite dirty. One of the choices, if supported, would continue to refine and clean up the output over time. The question is which one should get the backing. I'm all for a little extra sacrifice to sever our dependence on other nations.
