So is iPhone a copy of the first phone that came with sms? Or with colour screen? Or a copy of the first phone ever made?
Of course other companies will develop phones with some of the same functions. So have Apple done - Maybe not enough though, when you see the lack of specifications on iPhone.

My phone will recognize all of those common filetypes. I can create Word Docs, and Excel Spreadsheets, it will also read PDFs and Power Point presentations. Try a WM5 or WM6 phone...

I can see Subby's point. The iPhone isn't like a GPS, camera, et al, in that it's not a new product as such, it's a product line. We all know that everyone's gonna "borrow" ideas from each other, that's obvious, it's what happens when a product is successful. But making a comment like that wasn't a good idea, and let me assure you, knowing how this place works, he and his further interaction with the media will probably be closely monitored.

But technology is rarely about innovation these days. Too much risk involved. Being able to take the wheel and re-invent it, or re-construct it with better features like we have been doing with phones for years - that's considered innovation nowadays by technology's standards.

That depends: is the best solution for a phone going to be to run the same (or similar) OS as a standard computer, or is it a completely different type of app that requires a completely different type of operating system?

Been reading a few articles about the differing views on developing for handheld devices, and if thinking along similar lines as we have for current online usage is correct or not. Anyway, perhaps a discussion for another time/place...

Anything that you have to mod that much to make it "usable"... isn't worth it usually.

The iPhone, I'd get it if I wanted a pet project; to me it's not worth it right now.

Get the VoIP app, Skype using Wifi, and I'll be there.
