The researchers also found that the bilingual volunteers were much less likely to suffer from the mental decline associated with old age.
"The bilinguals were more efficient at all ages tested and showed a slower rate of decline for some processes with aging," they said.
"It appears...that bilingualism helps to offset age-related losses."

Yeah, one of the banes of my existence is how hard I'm finding it to pick up a second language! They say the first one is always the hardest, and I'm certainly finding it so.
And all these years in non-English speaking countries too! I often find the problem is locals prefer to speak English to me to improve, rather than help me improve my baby-level attempts at their language.
But planning to rectify that next year. Wherever I am will enrol in a language course of some description. It's the one current goal I have yet to achieve.

Hmmm... now I'm a bit worried. I'm a "bit older than" 30 but am told I look 30. So if I learn a second or third language will that mean I'll start looking 25 or younger???

you won't look younger, but probably you can freeze your look at 30. But you also need tequila, lots and lots of it, like every night, before and after brushing your teeth. Tequila has the advantage that when you're drunk, it makes you think you can talk in any language, and it makes you think you look like a 15 year old girl.
