That's the W3C's job. And they do that quite well.

I seriously don't think that you quite understand a thing that anybody will ever say to you in any language that you supposedly know; too damn stubborn to understand that nobody said you couldn't be creative or use tricks.

Just don't be too damn surprised if your trick doesn't work in every instance. Sad, but true. Both remarks.

I'm bored now. Back and forth prattle about something as inane as such where the obvious is overlooked is taxing.

    Bis später.

Thanks for the compliment. Have a nice day

All posts culled from a discussion about HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray, located here which degraded from Sony's Blu-Ray vs. Microsoft backed HD-DVD and degraded quickly to CSS discussion and how IE doesn't like CSS Tricks, to now I'm branded as an idiot since I won't stand down because a trick is basically a programming folly only expected to always work by fools... and Fredi (Subway).

I'm quite sure this will result in the exodus of Subway, yet again. I won't ban him. He'll self-impose a ban on himself I guess. I just don't think that CSS Tricks, while cool when they work, shouldn't be expected to work always in all instances.

Guess my comp. science professor did a good job.

About as exciting as... well, nerds getting gangsta behind the keyboard.

I'm seriously laughing my head off over here. Such compassion for CSS.

    And Sony.

    Fanboyism, the new heroin.

Just found a blogpost I read some time a go. I have a completely different view on IE6 now.

Having stumbled across this thread I gotta stick up for Subway here. I too get the right hump with trying to make css things work in IE.

You guys had this problem before: 2 or 3 <div>s floated to say the left, each one with margin-left of 30px.

In FF no problem but in IE for some reason it will double the margin of the first box floated to the left, so the first one is 60px then the other two are 30px and 30px.

I mean thats no "trick" thats just basic stuff that IE's getting wrong right?

So whats invalid code about floating 3 divs each one with a margin?

Only happens to the first element and only if the margin is the same direction as the float, margin-right's will be cool.

ps. thought with css people weren't supposed to use tables anymore?

If you know what standards are applicable you code to those standards.
You don't code to standards you know are not applicable.

    Same with Flash.

This is all really pointless. No browser has followed the w3c verbatim. The question seems to be refined to: Can you write compliant CSS that validates as outlined by the w3c and expect rendering according to their box model accross all A grade browsers?

The answer is no and I doubt anyone will argue that. The arguable point is who is the worst offender. This is not like most technology limitations where its an acceptable and understandable roadblock. This is a case of closed source implementations of an open source standard and the lack of skill or vision leading to end user hardships.

Microsoft simply screwed up more stuff to the point where you can just say, "Microsoft single handedly made me hate CSS".

What has he done to even be considered for a ban?
He was just arguing his side, even though it was wrong and then you started editing his posts to make him look stupid?

Am I missing a big swear/insult infested post here or somthing?

I edited nothing in this thread. What he said, he said it. What was edited was changing the title of the other thread, then adding what the original thread was about.

I've not banned him. I've stated that I wouldn't. What part of that do you seem to not understand?

I don't think what he's done is a bannable offense, so he banned himself. I've done nothing other than change one title on one thread that he decided to post and I've allowed that thread - with a title change - and this thread was culled from the original HD-DVD vs. Blu-Ray thread which was hijacked by Subway's rantings, what not.

So yeah. You've missed nothing. I've edited one title, added that very same title to the start of his very first post, and pulled this thread from an existing thread.

Now... what he's done, that's on him. He can't discuss anything civilly with anybody that actually has a different thought than him and that's the response they get... then so be it. That's on him.

I'm the on called an idiot and I thought it was funny. So his account and the posts stand... unedited.

So... you want the title turned back to his original tirade of "Gerbick's an idiot"?

If that's the case, so be it. Matters nothing to me really.

After reading all that, I believe I have every right to yell

    FREAKIN' GEEKS.

Will you look at yourselves, getting bent out of shape about what code works in which browser?

I have never seen such a myopic, self-absorbed display in my time here on the boards.

And that's not directed at any one person. You're all equally guilty.

    Just absurd.

The second that I disallow myself the growth that comes from external opinion, discussion and fact; that's the day I become as this thread has shown some people to be.

Oh well. I know now to never show that certain people may actually be wrong.
