Retired SCORM Guru
Screamo?
Walked by a co-worker talking to one of our part-timers today (high-school/college age), and he's listening to something on her iPod with a funny look on his face. Our part-timer is sharing some of her 'screamo' music with him. There are crunching guitars, screaming, yet somehow it's whiny even though I can't make out the words. Too many of those 'soaring' chord changes and that voice breaking where you reach the peak of a note. Perfected by those emo brats.
So, I went old school and pulled out some Henry Rollins. I told her: "this is yelling."
She crinkled up her nose and said it wasn't any good, and had no idea who he was. I almost backhanded her on the spot.
WTF is wrong with kids and their music today?

you're OLD!
but seriously...i kind of agree with you. The old stuff is better. Give her some Deftones as well for some nice quality throat ripping screaming.
But i guess my argument is that at least rock is back in a mainstream sort of way. It's much better than it was 7 years ago when the Backstreet boys and all those fk'ers where dominating EVERYTHING. You couldn't get away from all that pop stuff. Even if screamo is the new pop...it's better than that other crap.
And while i don't respect emo, many bands are pretty good musically.

God I hate music now. Well at least that Genre.

I used to go to tons of shows when I was younger that looked just like the top picture. I graduated high school just in time the "emo" scene wasn't too big and didn't have a over crowding of those kids. College is full of sweat pants- that emo style takes too much effort to look like you don't care.

i don't agree with that image. The hardcore scene is still alive and well. the good stuff has gone underground (yet again)
it's just the mainstream kiddies have latched on to an almost flock of seagulls with distortion pedals and modern clothes.
at least it's rock.

OK correction to the image. The top is the good hardcore grunge kids you hardly see anymore. The bottom are the "hardcore" vegan XVX for life kids you see and are obnoxious as hell.
They are like if a real hardcore kid was raped by a glow stick twirling raver kid and had a down syndrome baby.

I thought this was about the sequel to Orgasmo.
Be careful... you're about to become that old dude that listens to classic rock.

Not PWD
Well I for one can't stand the majority of my own generation, nor their choice in music. They aren't the mainstream though, and per usual all the good stuff never makes the radio so don't fret.
