ahem, why is there a need in ball? why cant this pong be played with particles only? to have, in effect, multi-ball pong.

When I first saw the subject, that is what I assumed it would be, pong, with particles instead of a ball.
Having the ball as well may give the game some more focus, otherwise the particles might get evenly space out across the board and if that happened there would be less skill involved and more luck.

It feels like it's missing something. You could make this a bit more exciting by using collision detection for all the particles as well. Maybe give the cpu a score counter and have a score that you have to reach before him or something like that.
I must say that it's nice for you to join in the community every once in a while.
Edit: the cpu has the problem of not being able to go all the way down and thus he leaves a small opening for the ball to get through. This game is pretty cool, a nice spin.
