[bug bash] Motoracer

I've been working on making improving the mode7 racer engine I created some time ago, and have got myself what I think is a nice little mode7 timetrials game. Its at the bug bash stage... so if anyone wants to break it... now is the time!!
http://blastone.com/games/motoracer/
It needs a pretty beefy computer though, as its a 600x600 mode7 and 3d engine, id also be interested in hearing fps as well. Its been a fun little learnign process... a bit of 3dmax, a lot of maths and some 3d in flash!
Still to do is the high scoreboard formatting... but all the scores and track details are being recorded!
Many thanks

I couldn't make it crash, good work !
My only crits are that textures are jpegged a bit too heavily and it shows.
Also, it looks a bit awkward for the moto to bump on the small orange thingies (edit: cones. Thanks Squize) on the road.
My machine is quite bad and the FPS is decent, nothing to worry about.

Hype over content...
It remembers the state / positions of the cones! Sweet
It's such a thing of beauty you've put together there mate, and every time I play it it fires off new ideas ( Smoke on a tight corner, skid marks ( tehehe ) ).
No bugs from me ( I've not really gone out of my way to break it though to be honest ), but in terms of gameplay perhaps less cones on some of the tighter corners, as they're tricky enough to get around at a decent speed, and their placement at times is just plain evil
Great work, I'm going to play it more, and if I manage to break anything I'll give you a shout.
Squize.

looks cool. i think the leaning should be relative to his speed as well. fast = leans more, slow = leans less

Squize: Ill edit the cone positions, I did make them pretty evil. Smoke/Dust is something Im going to put in the motocross version
Blink: I'll revisit the leaning... its a good idea
Perhaps Ill make the cones just slow the player down... as opposed to a bounce..... the lead cones are pretty rude
The textures are not heavily jpegged that jagged effect is caused by 2 things. 1) I scale the whole game display up with smoothing turned off for speed, so that I get a larger playing area that gives me the tilt, and 2) they are maped as tesselated triangles in the 3d engine so quality is as low as possible for speed....
Thanks for the feedback so far

One question; Why the kangaroo? I had to hit it at full speed just to believe it was really a kangaroo...
In all seriousness, I agree a lot with the pixelation on the track. It seems very out of focus. Also, on the home stretch, the revving sound starts over entirely like you were starting from a dead stop, not like you're hitting last gear and really sailing down the track. Finally, I think the brakes are WAY too touchy. I had a hard time slowing down only a little for the hairpins as any time I touched the down key I was almost at a dead stop. Plays really smooth on my machine though, good job.

awesome stuff, one of the best mode7 games I have ever seen.
One bug I saw was when I went through some checkpoints i was shown a wrong way sign, even though I clearly was going the right way. It happened mostly at the red banner checkpoint in Australia

Yeah I got the same as Malee... It was too quick to read it so I thought it was a checkpoint thing telling my current lap time.

Thanks for finding the wrong way bug, i've replicated it too and now have to figure out why its happening!
Ill tweak the brakes as well. Thanks

i wouldn't make the hats do anything except fly up over the biker dude and into the camera. it would be a great effect. just render a spin of the hats and then when they're flyin you can add another rotation to the clip so they look like they're spinnin madly.
maybe you could change them from being and obstacles to a bonus type thing.

one other thing;
what you could do is bring your ground texture into max.
add all the objects; trees, start gate, marker gate, rocks etc (anything that rises above the ground)
render it out with a top-down camera
then you would have a texture with really realistic shadows and light tones

Nice idea, when someone pays for a version Ill suggest that

I get 26-27 fps pretty steady, but it feels sluggish, and the bike feels too heavy. It gets better when I can build up some speed.
Looks promising, but question is whether you can add 4-5 more opponents and get a decent feel of speed. That is what it really needs, not cones and barriers ( then againg I prefer realistic racing, others may not ).
tested on 2.2ghz core2duo.

I try it first on Opera - browser crashed, then IE - crashed, then Firefox - get this message:
"
Error: Error #1502: A script has executed for longer than the default timeout period of 15 seconds.
at Skybox$iinit()

All hapen when i click "race".

@jubek: maybe a difference in the flash player version?

Like MikeMD, I think the bike feels sluggish/unresponsive.
The horizon tilt effect when you turn is a great touch.

The game failed to start the track in Opera (loaded initially, saw the Race button but only black thing after that). Played nicely when used direct link to swf.

Thanks for the bashing and suggestions os far.
* As a result, now the bike leans according to speed (thanks blink)
* the cones just cause a slight slow down of the bike if you hit them.
* Engine sound has been fixed (flash sound sux) so that its doesnt restart from the beginning if you are fanging it. (Thanks IP)
* Bike is more responsive now, should keep rachil0 and MikeMD happy.
I think its ready for release now, Ill add some new stuff like crowds of people if it gets enough interest out in the wild
