The internet is gone, in XP
I have no internet in XP, not wired or wireless. The wireless finds the access point, and connects to it, but receives no packets. I've checked my IP config, and it's set to DHCP. I've also tried with a wire, and it connects, but i still don't receive any packets. But this is only in XP. In kubuntu, everything works fine. Any idea what might be wrong?

Can you ping the router? If so, can you ping www.yahoo.com? Try and just work down the line to see what's up? If it's local at the machine level, you should just reset all network settings manually, reboot, and then start the whole process again.

hmm, I could ping the router, but not yahoo (or google). Then we found the ip to google, and now i does tracerout it.
I changed the DNS to openDNS, and we'll see how it goes. Hopefully it will work.

I usually set local DNS to the IP of the router and the router's DNS to that of my ISP. You could try changing your DNS server at the local (XP) level to some publicly known DNS server...

I move my laptop around too much to set it to the routers IP.

I don't think it would require a setting on the machine ihoss.
HR is saying, the router is set to hand out IP to anyone who's knows the WEP.
Your one machine could have multiple wireless connections setup that you could jump between as you change location. Unless it's a work lappy set up on some stupid Novel connection.
