For $4000 dude, you can get the top of the line anything and still have some money to spare. You can get a hell of a machine for less than half that.

Eh, I've been better.
The Windows PC realm isn't really my area. I've been running Macs only for a while now.
Just get something multi-core, (I don't know if quad core has hit laptops yet), and as much RAM as possible for running CS3 stuff. Video card won't affect much, especially in a Windows machine. I guess CS4 is supposed to be leveraging a lot more video card power to handle Photoshop filters, and whatnot, but I think I heard it was going to be more Mac specific. I could be wrong about that though.
From what I hear, Alienware is just an overpriced gaming laptop. Large and runs hot, and has a real expensive video card. Unnecessary in your case, unless you do want to use it to play games as well. I'm personally not a big gamer, so it's the least of my worries. I'd prefer to have more RAM, than a better video card.
And in all honesty, with that budget, I think you'd be better buying a cheaper laptop, still high end, every two years, instead of one every 4, etc. That way you're still semi-up-to-date. No computer is really going to last 4 years if you want to keep up to date with the latest and greatest software.

I like my Macs, but I'll be the first to admit, they have their flaws, and aren't for everyone. I wouldn't suggest getting one unless you're certain you'd be abel to use it in your day-to-day workflow.
And no, your Windows version will not work on a Mac. Completely different thing going on there.

the only program i have is cs3, and my daily activities are desighning and web use. every once in a wile i'll play a game online. buying another copy of cs3 does not seem to be smart, so i guess mac is out, unless adobe will switch for the mac version. i doubt it, so a vista 64 laptop hunting i'll go.
oh just found out sager will be releasing a quad core next week. the only one i found so far. but again a gaming machine

You can call and find out about the policy about switching to a Mac platform. That I'm not sure on.
But regardless, good luck on the search. Computer shopping is always fun!
