Reward Gadget?
Suppose there was a tournament style, on-line game that was free to play. What gadget (or other item) would be the best prize to offer as the incentive for the winner? Needs to be around the $50 range.
No. Porn wouldn't work. Think younger audience.
USB drive? iShuffle?

iPod Shuffle is a bit over that $50 bucks, but worth it.
Or just a $50.00 certificate at Gamestop or something.

Yeah. I was thinking about certificates also or even cash. But, it seems like there might be more legal restrictions giving those out. Something else I need to look into more. Anyone familiar with the legal requirements needed to give out cash rewards and prizes? I know you always see "Must be 18 to play" even on candy sweepstakes...?

you never sped up your photoblog to allow me to choose a photo to buy from you. It's like pulling teeth trying to dig through your photos.

Heh, I'm tempted to mirror wannabe's photos on my server.
I'd have a lawyer write up the rules and regs, privacy policy, and terms of use. It must cover the typical "no purchase needed" type language.
I was thinking thumb drive before I even finished reading your post.
You might work out a deal with fileplanet or some other g-rated paid site for some free time or whatever.

Before I leave I really need to kick my friends ass into helping me out. He is a really good backend programmer and said he wants to help me redesign my site from the ground up and add all sorts of bells and whistles and host me on his reseller account. Yay dedicated server!

most of those 18 and up requirments are because it could be considered gambling.
in massachusetts you need to be 18 to play games of chance(lotto, bingo, keno) but 21 to play games of skill(card games, craps)

Thanks. Good ideas.
I've been searching around and reading various rules and terms. It seems like the "no purchase needed" language is connected to sweepstakes where you buy a product. I'm pretty sure that the reason is that otherwise, it would allow someone to set up their own private lottery. States like to regulate and have a piece of the action if anyone is going to be running a lottery.
Since the game is free to play, there is no purchase necessary. It's just a promotion to get people to play the game.
Anyway, you're right about the lawyer. I'm going to have ours look into it.

Yeah. I think the whole point is to distinguish it from either gambling or lotteries. But, there also might be some parenting/liability type issues too. For instance, some parents might not want their kids to be able to get some product delivered to them in the mail without their knowledge. If it's a gift card or something, the kid might then use it to buy something they shouldn't have. So, it seems like the 18 years and up will be necessary.
Thanks for the help!

This might sound off the wall batty but I'm going to throw it out there anyway...how about a game?
Choice of game for whatever system...granted you're going to have to put up $60 for a PS3 or 360 game.
Obviously a bad idea to actually choose a game yourself because people will fall off if they already have it or dont like it.

i did that for silverx...bought some wii points and gifted a game to him.

That's a good idea. I had thought about a game but was stuck with the idea that people may or may not already have it. A "game credit" could work.
Gerbick, I might be able to think of something as a reward for reward ideas.
