    Google ad sense in games

    http://venturebeat.com/2008/07/30/go...e-advertising/

interesting. From what I see at the moment, most of the big media planning agencies don't even know who or what Mochi is, if Google suddently wanted in on the market, if nothing else if it would be a big PR push for flash / web gaming.

    Thoughts?

I've had to help implement them here at g5 for a couple of games ( Anyone else whose done that will be as sick as I am of the guy on the pogo stick test movie ), only to have to take them out again as it's been in beta forever.

From a coders point of view, the stuff we got was as2 and needed a nasty local connection hack to work with as3, but that was a couple of months ago and it was still very wip.

Hopefully it'll mean good things, mochi have really raised their game since gameJacket came along, so this should improve things again.

Sure that would be a good thing for us. Maybe not a good thing for mochi, but I doubt google will get as closed as mochi is from flash developers.
    Thx for the link!

Good info. That's interesting. It's good to hear gaming market is growing and that companies like Google are probably getting in

This will be good, Google can afford to pay much more then any other ads program and they have enormous exposure and advertisers already lined up. Know one even comes close. Hope they do it right though and don't make an ugly ad's system which brings down the look of a game. Because their current one is pretty ugly.

The part about "web based games" could be mostly for their own Lively project (or something similar they are making).

so Squize as you'vr actually used this system, is it a text based system to display around games etc or is it more of a Mochi-like thing?

It's rich media baby, streaming video ( Although that could well have been for testing purposes, you may be able to just drop a gif in there as I can't imagine everyone wanting to place an ad in the system wanting to go to that much effort / cost, but it does support flv ).

I've left gimme5 now and I don't think I bothered backing up the google files, but from memory it's a far sized ad, 300x300 ?
When I last saw it it really wasn't a patch on where mochi are now, but then it's all about the cpm not the tech.
