thats the exact reason I got a PS3, and actually turend out a LOT better then expected. Everyone I know who had an Xbox is now on their second one or has at least had to send it to get repaired.
I don't understand how microsoft can have such a horrible track, and people still buy their products.

I haven't switched my PS3 on in so long i've begun to consider selling it. The last time I played it was MGS4 and GH3. Now i've just got Rockband on xbox so the PS ain't getting a look in.
If you enjoy playing games then the xbox is worth the occasional hassle.

Dude, do the blanket thing to see if it works.

superheat an already over-heated gadget to reset it - yep, that sounds just about the stupidest thing I have ever heard

It's the poor man's "reflow" fix. The idea is to heat up the solder to its melting point in hopes that it (makes a better / corrects a broken) connection. While the possible benefits are great, most seem to forget that if you're melting the solder on the faulty connection, you're also heating up the solder on good connections and risk doing more damage.

It gets hot enough to melt solder?
That has bad idea written all over it.

I've found that dropping a 360 out a 3 story window often fixes this problem. The impact can jostle the internal parts just enough to possibly repair some of the broken connections. Only works on the weekends though.

It's the name of a specific technician position at Microsoft. It's his / her (fan girl) responsibility to ensure that all of the cooling components don't exceed a 50% efficiency rating.
Or it's someone who's really into something. I forget which is the right one.
