    F*** Lotus Notes!

I hate Notes. I've always hated it. It got worse with 8, when they decided "Hey! Let's build it on top of Eclipse, so we can bloat it up and make it perform worse."

It crashes on startup 20% of the time, if you try to open your mailbox before the home page has fully loaded. It can't even manage the z-indexof the new mail alert in Windows.

Then, you get lovely meaningful crash errors like this, after your machine takes 2 minutes to full recover from it going down.

We're on version 7 where I work. It's so slow and awful, but they decided to build all our infrastructure around the Lotus Notes databases, so we'll never be able to switch.

I have it on my work laptop and when it crashes it can take 2+ hours for it to check the consistancy of the local database.
I never get those 2 hours back.

Why does anyone use Lotus Notes? It just doesn't make sense. I had to use it for 6 months once.. It felt like going from using firefox to using ie 3... it was that retarded...

We have customers that use Notes so if you work for a contractor they sometimes use Notes as well. I remember when I was using Notes and it would crash I would have to completely reboot my system or Notes wouldn't open again. Pain in the arse.

I worked on a Notes-based system about 10 years ago.

It wasn't so bad as a system, but we used it for a news database and the damn thing didn't even have a spell checker. I've heard that the later editions are hairy bloatware.

    Yes. Hairy bloatware.

I was with you in spirit(s), PAC.

My FK time is severely limited these days, due to not wanting to stare at a computer on my own time after spending all day staring at one.

Are you back from the land of ice or still partying it up with some Rekjavik chick.
