[INSPIRATION] - Nice little game
Just saw this video and thought the gameplay was pretty cool. Reminds me of Paper Mario, it has been used really well. Sort of problem solving in a platform game. The mechanic really doesn't start getting used until 1 minute into the video.
Fez
Papervision capable of pulling this off

....he's amazing!!!
I think this would work really well in flash. There's no 3d rendering whilst the game is playing.
Mike - platforms and ladders is older than that.

Thx for the link. The gameplay has also some common points with the Shift flash game series.

Yes, but I played a Japanese game on the original playstation in 1995, that was just like this, only everything happened in real time 3D.

I think the whole point is that the gameplay is always 2d, but you can change the perspective to alter the level layout.

I think pressing buttons to jump has been around longer. Still works in games new games though. I haven't seen this mechanic used this well.

Yeah that's what I was thinking I like how you have to rotate the level to progress further and sort of solve each step.

Papervision? I just dropped that as a name most people know, could be done better in another API definitely. Sure your engine could handle it just fine.

Nice i actually haven't played that before, that's a pretty good game.

I'm pretty sure the rotation and camera panning is real time 3d. I could be wrong though.

Cool link I really like when he starts jumping and rotating the camera while in mid-air. Feels very Matrixy/spoonbendy.
I think it could be done in flash and still be pretty high performance. It doesn't appear you can move while the camera is moving (right?) so the physics is essentially 2D. I think you could represent the collision/gameplay data with voxels, that are projected into one of 4 views as tile-based maps. For the 3D rendering sequences, I would use with polygons and bsp's.

Ahh yeah I get you so you would essentially have 4 arrays for the tiles you would switch between to check for tile collisions.

M.D.
I also think its very possible. Probably not so with the shadows and extra fancy stuff. But a 3D engine and 2D collision would work.

I would use an engine similar to this one used in coign of vantage : http://www.bobblebrook.com/games/coign-of-vantage
Not so difficult to code and very performant.
OK, so let's go ?
