This video is not available in your country.
So I'm trolling thru youtube and I decide to check out rising videos.
I pull the link up and I get
[quote]This video is not available in your country.{/quote]
Firstly if they want to regoinalize content it's a self defeating manuver
Secondly why offer it if they don't intend to show it?
I just think it's a dumb idea.

Welcome to what they've been feeling for ages on a lot more sites than just YouTube.

Same goes for BBC, it pisses me off so much as most of the time the video is an important part of the article and its 'not available' in my 'region'. wtf

An interesting article related to the discussed subject; however, it probably isn't an explanation for the scenario you are describing: Web Grows Without Profit

Thanks for posting the link ChaseNYC, very interesting read.
So, it seems the problem is with the required bandwidth for the developing countries, which is costly for companies like youtube, as the ad revenues from these countries are almost negligible.
Sucks.

I think the reason the iPlayer is almost non-existent outside of the UK is just to do with tv licenses. Brits pay for their bbc service and so allowing anyone outside of the UK to watch the same content for free aint right.
Which is annoying, as I want to watch Top Gear.
I suppose similar things may happen with youtube content. I noticed I got that message trying to watch Father Ted last night, even though there was an alternate youtube video that had the whole episode anyway.

I wouldn't suggest that you continue to talk about such a "gray area" tactic. Thanks in advance.

Runs until October 1st this year, I just paid for it and forgot about taking it back for the refund, so imo i SHOULD be getting iPlayer - but thats another story!
