Car Stereos
So when I bought my car it came with a decent stereo in it and the stock speakers were obviously replaced. The stereo is one of the ones that when the car is off it flips in itself so it looks like no stereo is even there. The key feature about the stereo I love is the AUX line in so I can hook up anything to it as my source but something screwed up and when I turned off my car it tried to shut itself(doesn't normally if something is plugged in) and it ripped something lose inside the AUX input so it has a really crap connection now if it even works.
So what I am looking for is a decent new head unit with AUX on it at least. Is there a such thing as a unit that accepts usb flash drives and can read mp3's off it? That would be killer.

The head unit in one of my cars takes both USB Flash Drives and Memory Cards (SD Cards, woo!). So it's definitely doable. I don't know about pricing though, mine's a JVC I think, with a DVD player and stuff built in.
One of my other cars has what looks like the stock head unit (Alpine) and it's got a USB Flash Drive slot too.
I don't commute much, but I definitely go for many random drives, and most of them are long distance. So it's REALLY nice to have the facility

I am actually in my car enough to buy a decent new unit. I drive to and from work daily and then I am usually the driver of our friends so I am in it quite a bit.
Zak could you find the model #'s? I definitely don't need some silly touch screen dvd player but the flash drive would be awesome.

Also, if you're interested, I'm running the following system in one of my older cars -

It's the Sony MEX-BT5000. I actually picked this up off eBay for ~$400 back nearly 2 years ago. Should be hell of a lot cheaper now. It doesn't do USB, however if you're anything like me, since I work with cellphones all day, I tend to keep all my music on my phone. This headunit will let you stream music over bluetooth from your cellphone to your headunit, while also giving you the call functionality from there too.
