video lesson request
So I'm playing around with creating some video tutorials in order to drive more traffic to my blog but, as with most things, I'm going to suck at first.
For now I just want to do an Illustrator lesson as a test. Are there any uses of AI that you guys would like to see demonstrated?

coming from a flash background, I've never understood AI, as it seems it has the same tools (and I guess more advanced tools), but it just works different.
Simple things like change layers, change colors, change fonts, all seemed different to me (not sure if nowadays it's still the case). An tutorial comparing both programs would be awesome ("this is how you do it in flash, and this is how you do it in AI")

Thanks guys, great suggestions. I think I'll start small with basic document/panel layout and see how it goes. Keep em coming.

Say something about your kid being a toddler and knowing more about Illustrator than you until you used the lessons. It worked for Video Professor.

make up a funny story line like "you suck at photoshop" did. Those were hilarious.

^ That's totally my angle. There's enough dry boring sh*t out there. I'm thinking of pretending I'm learning it myself where I sound all confident then get stuck and start cussing. After enough times I'll just scream "Oh f*ck it, I'm going to dig ditches" and stomp out of the room.

or "10 ways that prove illustrator is better than....."
or "20 illustrator techniques i betcha never heard of"

I actually wrote a 10 tricks post for my old blog but I may just create a video instead of porting it over to the new one. Thanks for the idea.

Make a video that descriptively goes thru the entire process of opening the packaging of Adobe Illustrator as if it were an Apple iPhone 15Gs with optional lightsaber attachment circa 2024.

I just don't get how that got popular.

personally I try to avoid video tutorials because it takes longer to load, and it's very hard to go back to find where you may have miss something
I prefer to scroll up and down tutorials with the step-by-step guide and screenshots. It's a lot easier and quicker to follow.
just something for u to think about.

I agree but there's definitely a built in benefit to seeing it step for step. Can't tell you how many lessons I've read that left out a crucial interim step. I've actually thought about building a tutorial based player with chapters, comments and high speed run through alternatives... but I'll wait for the adsense dollars to roll in before I build that.
I gave my first tut a shot which didn't turn out bad but runs for about a half hour. I doubt most people have that kind of attention span plus it'd probably be half the length without all of the "uh, so". It did serve its purpose in giving me a process to making them though. I think I may do a series of short 3-5 minute tuts on each panel until I have something substantially original to contribute.
