    [Team Request]no-name rpg

Hi guys, I am creating a side-view RPG, and I need some help, mainly with gameplay ideas, story, and graphics. I can do all of the coding, so no problems there, but when it comes to dialogues and graphics...well...let's just say, I don't want to give you a heart attack! What I am going for at the moment is a pretty much flexible framework, so that I can easily plug in the story and graphics!

Though there is nothing to show at the moment, I will keep this updated from time to time!If you have any queries, or suggestions, please feel free to post!

    Also a few questions:-
    1) What type of rpg would you guys like? fantasy or horror
    2) Should I keep everything mouse controlled or add in keyboard too?? and what are you comfortable with?

    I Currently Require:
    1) Story writers
    2) Spriters

As it seems you haven't decided what to make your RPG game about, may I humbly suggest NOT making it a fantasy RPG. I'd suggest making it a sci-fi futuristic RPG, or set now days with a fantasy element in it, steam punk, zombies, pirates etc. Basically anything but a Tolkien style fantasy RPG will be fresh and unique (at least comparatively).

With the controls, it really depends on the speed of the game. If it's going to be turn based, it would be best to have mouse. If it's going to be real-time action, keyboard would be better suited. In my opinion keyboard controls are easier on the ol' wrist, so if it's going to be a really long RPG that's something to keep in mind.

Good luck with the project and beware of naysayers, flamers and trolls. Making an RPG almost takes as much time and effort as playing one to the end.

    Thanks for the tips!

You are right, i haven't decided what to make the RPG about.... but I think I will make it turn based for now, and reserve the realtime one for a top-down rpg! When I said fantasy, I didn't mean those dragons and monsters game, I meant a game in a different realm, with tottally new creatures and stuff! but actually, it does sound too common nowadays.....well, if in fantasy, I could use the generic wizard/mage/rogue classes, but what classes would be apt if I go for futuristic? Any suggestions?

    Futuristic classes could be;

    Technicians (build, fix, technical proficiency)
    Medics
    Soldiers (strong, technical proficiency)
    Mutated (psi powers or whatnot)
    Con-man (persuasion, speech craft)

Personally, I've always loved the post apocalyptic theme for an RPG.

Then you could have gem characters like this guy...

(My own overly ambitious, long ago abandoned, RPG)

hmm medic+soldier+mutants sounds great thanks.....i couldn't understand the implementation of con-man though. But should I use humans or some other race, like aliens?(that is should the game take place on earth or another world, maybe a parallel universe?)

Both, if your ambitious enough. Instead of "races" like orcs ogres giants and the like you can have different species. Humans, aliens, cyborgs, robots etc.

Just a note: Even though it's important to make your game unique, don't make it so different that you start making something you won't enjoy, or you'll probably lose inspiration a short way in.

Nah, with the post apocalyptic theme, I already have a story(rather I should say idea) in mind.....so I won't lose interest....

I have finished the movement, speech and quest systems, now I have to do shops, and most important thing class/skill-tree! i really can't think of an efficient solution for the skill-tree other than the classic, if skill1 and 2 are filled, enable skill3!

for the controls, i am currently, only doing mouse based, since this is turn based, but I will later add keyboard support for repeated and tedious tasks like attacking!

I still need a spriter and story writer, please, can anyone help?
