He|| Yes! I loved that show and still watch the repeats.... The DIY channel is good, but it's not JYW's nor is it very creative. The same old thing all the time, but still educational, sometimes....

The finale to DEXTER was amazing. Craziest ending so far for any of the seasons I think. Lots of info is being found out as well all around him. I always say "how could they possibly top this next season" but this year I honestly have no idea where the writers could possibly bring it. I'm sure it'll be amazing. I really hope that wasn't the peak of the show.

What's up with fox and hulu. i always get a two-fer with dollhouse.
Not that I'm complaining sbout the show. Each episode I see makes me more pissed that dollhouse has been cancelled. Although the writers have done a great job of closure.

whedon does his best when his shows are getting canceled.. he should just do 1 year contracts. season 2 is 200% better then season 1, you can only imagine how good season 3 could have been

Not that I'm defending fox but, I think you can have a great show that is lost on the masses. I also think shows with "the bigger story' shows like dollhouse have a shelf life.

I couldn't agree more. I can't speak to Dollhouse specifically, but it does seem like those with an underlying story behind the story tend to live a short life. I'm sure Fringe is next on the hit list, too.

Then why did Buffy, Battlestar and X-Files last so long?

Past history is no indication of future performance. The model is old and tired. In this day and age of MTV-style quick cuts and edits where meth-addicted fiends are in a frenzied search for the latest and greatest thing (see: Jersey Shore) there are bound to be unnecessary casualties.

BSG was epic the fate of human existence, Dollhouse is not epic, the fate of dolls
Buffy wasn't about the big story. It was about attractive and young kickin and takin.
As for X-Files i never saw the big story in it.

And sometimes the big story is a facade...

Remember kung-fu? -no one cared that he was looking for his brother.
In Plain Sight - Mary's already given up on finding her father, her sister and her mother are becoming less dependent on her. maybe the focus will shift and it will be all about Marshal Marshal.
Bones - Is this finally the seaon where Booth and Brennan finally hook up? who cares

in plain sight is a dumb show with horrible characters, im suprised it hasnt been canned.

Bones is a great show in the same vein as buffy. Witty dialog, unique characters, scripted drama, normally with an underlying bigger storyline.

Buffy and angel were two shows that always had a big bad, and the seasons progessed with the end goal of killing the big bad, with smaller things happening throughout.

Dollhouse in its first season was kind of all over the place, the main doll Echo was for the most part un-likable as you could never really get attached to her because she only remembered tiny bits, and was for the most part nothing special. Now all thats changed Echo is her own person, with the ability to have things uploaded to her brain matrix style, and the ability to pull and take from her skill set and personalities at will, its a shame it took till the second season for that to happen as if season 1 had never happened and we jumped right to season 2 im sure the show would have a much MUCH larger following.

x-files was always about finding out the truth, the real truth about everything that was going on and the corruption and a bunch of Bs, and finding mulders sister and crazy ass ****. not the mention the skully mulder love story.

shows need to be more like supernatural. a 5 year story line laid out from the begining. all of which culminates this year btw.

I've been silent, but Supernatural was a guilty pleasure of mine as well. Love this show... immensely. And it's been handled very well.

I have to disagree HR. That basic cable reality brain sludge does not beat out network prime time ratings, or even come close. The goal of any tv series (sit-coms excluded) is to run for 5 years. The best shows ever imo are the more recent ones who've plotted a five year arch to the story and creative writing 101 teaches you to not put your climax and denouement before the rising action or character introduction. Writers know this and carefully craft the story so as to steadily increase tension without which, bringing the hammer down late in season 3 falls silent rather than a resounding thud.

The first season of Dollhouse, while suspect, helped season 2 be what it is/was. It wouldn't be without it. Networks demand a rabid following half way through the first season and are robbing us of possibly TV's greatest memories.

Viewers are to blame too. One look at the Nielson ratings will tell you that.

EDIT: I'm one disc into supernatural. Its still early but I like what they're doing. Some actual scary moments too.

in Bones they want to explain everything for the slow people who can't understand the complexities of human nature. Why did suspect do that? Enter pycho babble explanation that also explains an otherwise seemingly unrelated occurance with a cast character. The show spends more time on background sexual exploits then it does on the actual case. What's more they cannot offer a tender moment as just that. The more mushy the romantic moments they have to counter balance with gratuitously gruesome displays of human decomposition.
