    Hold'em Poker Tips

No, I don't have any tips, I'm still learning the ropes -- Thanks to FB's Zynga Poker, I'm hooked now, and I could use some pointers.

Already Googled for a few tips/lessons but I gotta know if the pros out there have any insight for that little bit of edge to their game, Texas Hold'em, then hit me.

Pocket aces don't mean dick until you see the flop. If you're dealt un-suited whole cards that are far apart, it's probably a good idea to fold. Don't chase the river.

You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Know when to walk away and know when to run
You never count your money, when you're sittin' at the table
There'll be time enough for countin', when the dealin's done

...when you're not playing for real money. When the 'money' is fake, everyone stays in regardless of the quality of their hold cards. Forget about any strategy in fake money games.

    Exactly.

Free poker is good for learning the rules and the betting structure, but that's about it.

The best advice for someone new to hold 'em is to play tight.

I disagree. If you ever want your skills to translate to a money game, don't play tilt in fake games. Same goes for reading other players, they won't translate either.

    Wait, you disagree with what?

You cant really read people in fake money games...the betting is crazy because there's nothing at stake. It's almost like a low money limit cash table, everybody pays all the way to the river because it's cheap and you're getting pot odds to do so. In a free game, there's nothing stopping anybody from chasing...therefore, it doesnt really emulate a real money poker game.

I disagree with HR but only assuming one would like to get good at playing for money.

I'm a little confused too. Perhaps I worded myself in a confusing manner?

My point was that if you are ever looking to play in a money game, anything you 'learn' in a fake money game is pointless. All you learn is how to follow every off suited 2-7 all in pre-flop like sheep, then pray for your sh*tty hand to suck out a Full House. A high pocket pair is, in fact, useless in that scenario.

In a decent stakes money game, the amount of pre flop betting that should happen with that hand should weed out most of the suck-out style hands, so the pre flop value of that hand improves drastically.

If that is what you disagree with, then...so be it.

Either you worded it confusingly or because I hadn't had lunch yet I didn't process it correctly but your last post is exactly my thoughts as I thought was clear from MY posts.

Gee, thanks fellas but I believe you guys are referring to longhand games eh?

Granted, faking a good hand is a disastrous strategy when nobody's got anything real to lose in the facebook games.

It may be fake money, with lots of maniacs in longhand, but there are shorthand games or tournaments, where there are some really good players, which I'm having a hard time playing against. I tend to tilt against them.

Though it may be fake $$$, who knows, maybe I might even outplay Gshock in a real table, say... in a couple of months. Or years?

    A+.

yeah u guys dont know what u are talking about and i think what OP is asking is just too broad of a question for me to break down. The people on this forum probably dont believe me but i charge 300$/h for coaching and even then im selling myself short

Ok well since i dont have anything against OP i guess i can give u some free advice. Firwst u gotta know what game you're playing. Different games have different skillsets.. i dont mean "texas holdem" vs "pot limit omaha" i mean cashgames and tournaments have different skillsets. Some ppl are good at cash, some at tourney, and some at both, some at none. Also, the # of ppl matters a lot, 6 max, heads up, full ring,

then u gotta learn stuff like position, structure, 3 betting, 4 betting, ranges, and blinds.

There are no "tips" i can give u. only that the information that u are gonna receive is gonna be proportional to the value u paid for it. i.e. u pay top dollar ur gonna get top dollar information.

That was the most useless advice I have ever seen. Not that I expected anything more.

In order to win, you have to play.

    Do I win?
