Boondock Saints 2: All Saints Day

Kinda surprised this movie went straight to DVD. It wasn't as good as the first one but it was definitely awesome and a worthy follow up.
Coulda used more of the heart-pounding grit from the first one but it was still engaging and did a great job on re-casting.

Never even heard of this until I saw a commercial for the sequel the other day on TV. Caught about 25 minutes of this first one tonight on cable. Wow - what a piece of tripe. Honestly - I can't believe there was money for a sequel here...

Heart pounding grit? I think not.

Well clearly 25 minutes is long enough to judge anything. Part 1 is a cult classic and took nine years to get a second one green lit. They'll probably take a loss on it but they came through for the fans.

25 minutes with attention paid...is enough when it comes to trashy dialog, bad acting and overall poor execution.

Quality is not an issue when it comes to 'cult classics.' Roger Corman had a very successful career that had no problem proving that. The cult status usually comes from the concept that a very fervent, yet niche audience is behind the popularity. In general, the consensus opinion is usually negative.

What's your point? That cult classics don't deserve sequels or that if your opinion doesn't align with the status quo you're probably wrong? What would Hunter Thompson say?

My point? This movie was badly executed - plain and simple.

Do Cult Classics deserve sequels? Not what I said...bad movies don't deserve sequels. I don't see anyone clamoring for the Hudson Hawk franchise.

What would Hunter S. Thompson say? The good doctor would most certainly prefer shooting firearms and playing with explosives than watching bad cinema.

Fair enough. Down here on the ground, some people allow themselves to enjoy a gratuitously violent morally devoid wannabe Tarentino clone.

I enjoyed the first for what it was but don't lust over it like some people I know. I'll give the second one a chance but I need to rewatch the first as it's been years since I saw it.

Kept hearing about the first film. So, checked it out. I agree with HR. It was bad, to say the least, imo.

But, the story about the guy who wrote it, Troy Duffy is both amusing and apalling.

If anyone hasn't seen it, check out the documentary about the rise and fall of Duffy: "Overnight". It might make you see his film in a different light.

I enjoyed the first one. Wanted my gas money back for renting the second one with a free coupon.
