    Post Zombie Survival Game

    Yo, hey, whats up?

So I'm making this zombie survival game, which was initially supposed to be for
the contest Kongregate had a few months ago.... but my crappy-ass coder
dropped out before he even started. Anyway, I'm taking it upon myself to resurrect this project =)

It is a top-down shooter/survival/defense game. I am a pretty decent animator, so I've got that part covered. What I need is
an actionscripter, either AS2 or AS3, I don't care. I have some pretty virtuous plans for
this game, so you'd have to be a badass scripter.

    GAME TYPE: Top-down. Defense. Shooter.
GAME LENGTH: About 1 hour per runthrough.

I'll develop this list to show what the current state of the project is:
    --------------------------------------------------
    March 19:
    - Main Weapons: 90% Animated. 5% Coded
    - Disposable Weapons: 100% Drawn. 0% Animated. 0% Coded
    - Map one, Floor one: 100% Drawn. 0% Coded
    - Map one, Floor two: 0% Drawn. 0% Coded
    - Map one, Basement: 0% Drawn. 0% Coded
    - Zombie Enemies: 20% Drawn. 10% Animated. 0% Coded
    - Battle System: 0%
    - Barricade System: 0%

    --------------------------------------------------

    Concepts:

Disposable weapons: These are obscure items that you can pick up and use
as a weapon (or even as a barricade, see below). Things like wooden chairs, lead pipes, TV's, glass shards, etc.
Also, if you use one of these too much, it'll start to break. Then, certain
items like a chair or TV will start to drop pieces off like chair legs (from
chairs) or glass shards (from the TVs) which can be used as a weapon.

Barricading: Unlike any other zombie game, where you just go up to a barricade
and HOLD B TO REPAIR BARRICADE, in this game you have to gather up items
like chairs, toilets that you broke off the ground, refrigerators, ETC. Then,
drop them in the doorway or window. And then, I haven't decided if this is what
I'm going to do yet, but if you can find some boards and
nails, you can boost the strength of the barricade a bit.

Barricading continued: In most rooms there are certain items, like couches or
bookshelves, that can be pushed and flipped. While doing this, you can't shoot,
melee, or run. Unlike games like resident evil, you don't simple PRESS A TO PUSH IN FRONT OF DOOR,
you can move these object anywhere you want. (I will create a demo of the system soon)
Some zombies can slowly push these out of the way. In cases like the bookshelf,
some can knock them over. And in cases like the couch, some zombies (and the main character)
can climb over them, unless you stack other things on top of the couch or barricade the
    opening above the couch.
This is not the same as the concept above because you do not lift these items
up and carry them around as if they were a gun, you push/pull them as if they
    were a block or crate.

Storyline: You start out in the clean version of the map at the bottom of the page,
and your buddies (3 others) must set up a decent defense before zombies realize you're in
the building. After a while, the zombies will start attacking the building.

The zombies will start to pile on harder and harder until the first boss zombie breaks
down any kind of a half-baked barrier you may have set up at the front door.

He is a giant monstrosity, composed of nearly all muscle. From the looks of it, he
must weigh a ton! You know there is no way you'll be able to hurt
him with the crappy little pistols you and your allies have, so you run for the back
door screaming "lets go!". They stay and fight.

When you get to the back door, a flood of zombies bust in through the barricade.
You realize that trying escaping that way would be futile, and you quickly turn back.

Now you must choose to flee to the 2ed floor or to the basement, knowing the
giant that broke into the building would never be able to go up or down these tiny stairs.

When you get to your new holdout spot, you will continue to hear the gun fight going on
for about 30 seconds. You'll hear the monster's foot steps as he chases the guys
around the 1st floor, and you'll hear loud crushing sounds from him flipping
tables and smashing through walls. You will hear each one of your allies die individually as they
scream for mercy. After the third and final guy is killed, you'll hear the monster leave
the building not knowing you are still in there. (NOTE: This is your grace period.
This is your chance to barricade the stairs/door behind you. After the giant is gone, you won't
have long before the little zombies start climbing the stairs up/down to you.)

Either way you go, you'll start to be swarmed by zombies again. This time there is
only one entrance, so you will only need to build one barricade. After about 10 minutes
of holding out, you will fight one of two bosses. (read the note below).

After the boss is dead, the zombie invasion will slow down significantly.
You'll be able to roam the entire building. However, you
will not be able to fight the other boss. (You'll notice the floor you started out on looks totally
trashed and bloody, which is shown in the first example at the bottom of the page).
Then, a button will show up in the corner that says "Continue".
When you think you're done looting the building, you can press the button
and fast forward a couple weeks into the storyline.

Now, a few weeks later, you are running out of food. It's time to leave the building.....

    To be continued later.

    NOTE: Bosses
Either way you choose to flee to has a unique boss to fight later on. The basement will have a tunneler-type
zombie monster come up from below the ground. The 2ed floor will have a flying-type
zombie break through the wall. Unlike the first boss, you actually get to kill these, and you
only get to fight one. If you flee to the basement, you won't get to fight the flying one, and
    vise-versa.)

    --------------------------------------------------

    EXAMPLES:

Here is what I've made public SO FAR. There is more on my computer, but I'm not releasing it yet. I don't want anybody stealing my shiznit.

Map 1 (trashed) with a controllable character and no wall interaction 0.0 http://whirlwind93.deviantart.com/art/Zombies-147460758

Map 1 (Clean) no controls listed (it's the same as the first one ^). Still, the walls don't do anything. http://whirlwind93.deviantart.com/ar...ew-2-157813585

    Character/Weapons: http://whirlwind93.deviantart.com/ar...et-1-159850147

    Battle System: http://whirlwind93.deviantart.com/ar...down-159958838

If you're interested in scripting for this game, I'll send you the rest of the files privately. Thank you for checking this out =D

Interesting game concept. It doesn't seem very hard to code as it is basically a top-down shooter. I can help you make this game, but you need to come up with some more unique features if you want to make this successful......otherwise, there are a thousand and one tds zombie survival games, and this will just add to the pile.

I uploaded a full character sprite sheet (excluding a few of the weapons because i ran out of keys to add them). I finally gave him a hood, so he no longer looks like a goomba.
I uploaded a breakdown of how the battle system is going to work.
I decided that I'm going to upload everything i have made so far over the next few days. Stay tuned.
Also, I added walls to example 1. Just to show what itll feel like.

I'd be willing to help out. I'm an AS3 coder. Do you wanna discuss through email or what?

Also, I wanted to add that I just looked at the rest of your stuff, and you're definitely a good artist. At first, your game looked like it was just a copy-cat top-down shooter, but after you posted more content it's definitely unique and has great potential.

so i tried it. ok. it's better than good. it looks like it could be really fun! what i like is that it's kind of fur bally in a way. sometimes zombie games are gross looking. it just looks cute, if that's okay. anyway. it moves good. i like it how when your moving into the shot that whenever u shoot the gun it makes the guy slow down like a kickback. i really like that detail! i think u need to make a slime pool that the character has to cross and the only way thru is to keep shooting so he makes progress, or some other kind of trap that needs him to keep shooting like that to move. wow. i'm really glad ur making a zombie game cause their either the funnest or the stupidist ones going on right now on kong or ag.
