How'd They Do This????
go here: https://www.kobalttools.com/ roll over MENU on the bottom left, then click TOOL EXPLORER, and click one of the tools.... how do they do that? the 3d rotation... it looks like they took pictures of the stuff. Or did they design it in a blender type program?

normally Id say it was just stitched together image(s)..,,put into a movieClip...etc
but the angles and cinematography of it has be stumped.. unless a true 3D model of course.

yeah... all i know is it's bad a$$ and I want to learn to do it!!!!

(Decompiled it to find out, I don't plan to use it for anything other than answering this)
Each tool is stored like /flash/tools/MiterSaw.swf and called from xml
Just a bunch of images and a lot of frames.. It most probably was a 3D model at first, but it's using AS2 and I don't think AS2 has the capability of 3D model exports.

when you guys say 3d model, you mean these tools were actually created in a program and not actually a real photo of the tool? like they started with a box and a gradient and built these tools to look exactly like they do in real life?

I think they used a camera + greenscreen and splitted it up to multiple short videos from the first frame to the detail clicked.
Notice how, when you click on a different detail it first needs to move back to the first frame ,and from there go to the other detail. Quite simple,I think, actually.

hmm... no i don't think so. Parts of the obects move on their own? doors slide, parts rotate on their own, accessories fall in place? I'm pretty sure these are models.

Im also fairly certain these are 3D models..
exported into sequential images perhaps?

if these are 3d models I must say the detail is ASTOUNDING.
A little to astaunding for a webpage if you ask me.

you mean a webpage should be crappy? ;-)
@whispers, you can export as sequential pngs, which is best when you need to scrub the timeline, for example. If not best approach would be flvs.
