Thread: JUST GOT SWIFT-3D...

    Hi everyone...

I just got myself swift-3d...so far so good.
    However...Some questions:

    1. I found the torus-sphere-cone and txt tool, but
where the h... is the rectangle ? and the sylinder ?

    2. I wanna make objects in Wire-frame (no materials)
I suspect i can't do that in swift
If there is a way to do this... HOW ??

    3. About the materials.... can i use others than the built-inn...Like maby jpeg or giff images?
is there a "bump" function ?
Can i reflect other objects ?

    4. The scaling tool is not very accurate... is there
an other way to scale objects ?

Hope someone can answer my questions

    Hey Tor,

To make a rectangle or square you need to extrude a character map. Select the text object and then from your font list use Webdings or some such pic font and click the character map button next to the bold italic buttons and from the charater map list select a solid square and then highlight and erase the "text" in the text window and the hit apply. Then if it's not already select the new object and on the left select the "sizing option" and play around with the depth until you get the results that you like.

To create a cylander, fisrt create a cone and then select it, if it's not already, and on the left side there will be a few parameters that you can set...one being whether or not you want a cylander or a cone. Select cylander and the you can set its length, and inner and outer radious.

To have just wire frame objects can be done when you export or object as an SFW. You will find an option for including wire frames and you can select either outlines only or entire mesh, select entire mesh and turn off the fill option. Then once you import this in Flash, what I do is import it into a movie clip and then change the instance property for tint to alter the wire frame colour.

At this point there Swift3D does not support bitmap materials or texture maps but you can use masking layers within Flash to do this. But you can create your own custome materials other than the ones provided by selecting setup from the menu bar and then selecting materials. Here you can select a catagory in which you would like to add a new material or you can create a new catagory of your own. Then when you click on add you can create your own material with options for setting the ambient colour, diffuse colour, the highlight colour, whether its double illuminated and the size of the highlight etc.. There is a thread here about texture mapping, if you have not already seen it that may be of better use than my aenemic explenation.

To scale something often I use a combination of the scaling tool and the camera ( by right clicking and holding and dragging which moves the camera either closer or farther away from the object. Or you can use the radius parameter for the sphere, the major and minor radius setting for the torus, etc..

Well I hope this was of some use to you.
Also check out the user manual (in PDF form if you got the download version)if you have not already done that as well
