I've actually started DVR'ing American Idol just to see her performance. She is amazing.

i was completely ready to come in here and bash you for DVR'ing AI. You know, revoking a man card, questioning your man hood...etc. etc.

But after i watched that, i was kinda blown away. Chick is damned good. Her version of that song was a hundred times better (technically speaking) than joplin's. Hopefully she wins and it's not another crappy hack that's plagued this competition for years (and why i stopped watching years ago)

Anyway, can't say I know who she/he is. American Idol isn't the draw it used to be - I just take some notice during the horrific tryouts. Nothing like watching the folks that actually think they can sing try to sing... only to have reality pimp slap them into reality (sometimes)

The panel has been begging him to re-capture the feel from one of his original performances and he finally did. How was that bad advice?

I think the performance I linked to was the same feel and vibe of the Straight Up song. So, when they slammed it for being "too serious", "not smiling enough", "not original" we ended up with him doing weird mainstream songs and trying to dance.

They should have told him that he was spot on and should change nothing. Serious, acoustic songs where he does creative things with diction and phrasing are his strength, imo.

I have a singing background so I find it interesting. This is actually the first season I've ever watched the show past the funny audition stage. Marriage is compromises. What's more manly? Cutting me down or me not giving a fk?

Oh I didn't even click on your link since I assumed it was of his latest performance which trumped all of his other ones. I agree that the one you linked to was good but not in the context of the competition at that time. My assessment is that his personal style is not of the american idol pop ilk and he was trying to alter it to be so hence the off-target weeks.
